Community Capital Management Announces Winner of 6th Annual Impact Awards Competition

Ft. Lauderdale, FL, December 22, 2022: Community Capital Management, LLC (CCM), a leading impact and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing manager, today announced that Shirley Chisholm Family Residence in Brooklyn, New York, is the winner of its 6th annual impact awards for 2022 and will receive a $10,000 donation.

The Shirley Chisholm Family Residence is a transitional housing property for homeless families in Brooklyn, New York. Under a contract with the Department of Homeless Services for the City of New York, the 146 residential units must be used to provide shelter and overnight facilities for homeless families with children. This newly built property is part of Turning the Tide on Homelessness in New York City, a major restructuring of the way the city delivers homeless services with the goal of ending homelessness in the city. Through this initiative, the city plans to build 90 new facilities for homeless New Yorkers to replace the cluster sites and hotels that had been used for transitional housing. The new facility has added about 85 new jobs to the community, including clinical social workers, employment and housing specialists, teachers, childcare associates, security guards, and administrative staff.

The Shirley Chisholm Family Residence is operated by Win, the largest provider of family shelter and supportive housing in New York City. Win’s non-profit mission is to transform the lives of New York City homeless families by providing holistic solutions of safe housing, critical services, and ground-breaking programs to help them succeed on their own. Approximately 90% of Win families are headed by single women. The organization seeks to provide these women with the resources they need to permanently leave shelter including on-site daycare centers and after-school educational and recreational programs for children from infancy to age 17.

“We launched this competition six years ago as a way to showcase the positive impacts of our investments while incorporating a philanthropic aspect by donating $10,000 to the winner,” said Alyssa Greenspan, president and COO of CCM. “It has received tremendous feedback and we are honored to give back to organizations making a difference to people and communities nationwide.”

The other four nominees had equally impactful stories which included:

  • The Council of European Bank Social Inclusion Bond to bolster its response to the social crisis in Ukraine and to help its member states assist millions of refugees.
  • An affordable rental housing property in Philadelphia featuring a Friends Rehabilitation Program food pantry and Greener Partners’ Guild House Farm, which includes a community garden for residents to grow food.
  • An affordable rental housing property in the bay area where the developers are promoting equitable development and open doors to opportunity through integrated housing, business development, green energy, public transportation, and supportive services for marginalized populations.
  • The Nature Conservancy’s taxable Green Bond which is funding its work in the areas of environmentally sustainable management of living natural resources and land use, terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity conservation, sustainable water and wastewater management, climate change adaptation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.

“As a mission-aligned OCIO, we are so pleased to see our clients having their investment capital supporting meaningful social impact like the Shirley Chisholm Family Residence in Brooklyn,” said Lawrence P. Bancroft of the Bivium WestFuller Partnership.
