Community Capital Management Announces Promotions to its Investment Team

Ft. Lauderdale, FL, January 23, 2019: Community Capital Management, Inc. (CCM) is pleased to announce the promotion of Andy Kaufman to chief investment officer, Elliot Gilfarb, CFA, to head of fixed income, and Andrew Cowen to head of equities.  In making the announcement, Alyssa Greenspan, CFA, president and COO of CCM, said, “These promotions reflect our recognition for the many contributions that Andy, Elliot, and Andrew have made since joining CCM in addition to our commitment to retaining and promoting highly talented investment professionals.”

Details on the promotions include:

  • In the chief investment officer role, Andy Kaufman will oversee all investment strategies, portfolio construction, strategy formulation, and trading and research. He replaces Todd Cohen, who will remain CEO.  Andy joined CCM in 2015 as a senior portfolio manager from previous senior investment roles at Mercantil Commercebank and BlackRock.  “Andy demonstrates a keen ability to think strategically, effectively manage and oversee team members, and implement and communicate effective investment decisions and solutions,” said Cohen.  “His broad investment experience at BlackRock across various channels combined with his knowledge of and passion for impact/ESG investments make for a seamless transition into this role.”
  • Elliot Gilfarb, CFA, was named head of fixed income and remains a senior portfolio manager on the investment team. Elliot joined CCM in 2006 as a trading associate, rising to the role of portfolio manager, and then senior portfolio manager.  “Elliot’s extensive fixed income experience combined with his oversight for analyzing, selecting, trading, and monitoring fixed income securities makes him the perfect candidate for this newly formed role,” said Cohen.
  • Andrew Cowen was named head of equities and remains a portfolio manager on the investment team. Andrew joined CCM in 2017, serving prior as a sub-adviser to one of CCM’s mutual funds for four years.  “Andrew’s vast experience in the industry as a trader, portfolio manager, and analyst have provided him the background and skillset for this role,” said Cohen.  “We are excited to have Andrew overseeing equities for the firm’s liquid alternative strategy in addition to our two new Quaker Fund strategies.”

These promotions would not be possible without the strength of our investment team and as part of the transition, we are also excited to share the promotions of Ricky Fernandez to junior portfolio manager and Alex Alario to senior investment analyst.

“Ricky has been a remarkable asset to the investment team, collaborating with team members on research and security selection along with implementing and managing investment tools to improve processes and increase efficiency.  He has additionally earned the CFA designation during his time at CCM,” said Cohen.  “Alex has proven himself to be an excellent team member executing trades, writing reports, building financial models, and analyzing new investment opportunities.”

“We are fortunate to have these high-caliber individuals on our investment team and are pleased to recognize their significant contributions to the firm and our clients,” said Greenspan.  “They represent the next generation of industry leadership with a continued focus on technology, sustainability, governance, and ongoing assessments and improvements.”
